I have not upgraded in 2 years and I would either like to upgrade my cpu (1.9 intel) and if so how high could I go on this board (th711r) or should I buy a new board and cpu. I am a gamer and I dont want to spend alot on the latest and greatest. Also I will not be able to build a new system until next year. I want a noticable diff. in my gaming without spending more than $250 - $300. Also my video card is the MSI gforce ti 4400, how does this card compare to other cards is it still respectable? I will definitly buy a new card next year. Any info u guys and girls have would help.

According to ABIT, you can put a 2.4Ghz 512K cache Northwood in there. That'd be a healthy boost over your 1.9Ghz 256K cache Willamette . Make sure you don't get the 2.4Ghz Prescott though, it won't work.

You could also get a new video card. I wouldn't get less than a 9800pro at this point. You could wait on the video card, since new ones are going to be in the stores soon and that will drop the prices of the older ones.

Make sure you have the latest bios.

You'd want the 2.4Ghz 400Mhz FSB Northwood.

I would go to pricewatch and look.

Click on CPU, then click on Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz 400Mhz or you can look at the Pentium 4 2.2 Ghz 400Mhz.

You'll need to pick a vendor with a decent amount of feedback and a good feedback rating.

You have an Abit TH7-II?

Those were awesome boards, and most popular with the O/C'ing crowd. Although its unofficial, you could probably do a 2.8/533 processor in there. I used a TH7-II with a 2.66/533 for several months.

Yes, it looks like as long as it will work with PC800 RDRAM, he can also use a 2.4B 533fsb chip.

I stuck with 400fsb chips for him because I was uncertain about his ram and ABIT said nothing about 533fsb on the website. :D
