Upgrading a video card in a Dell XPS 410???

I currently have a GeForce 8800 GTX (768MB) installed. Just got a big-screen TV and am planning on hooking the computer up to it, but would like to do so via HDMI (unless someone convinces me that a DVI/HDMI adapter will work just as well) and so am looking for a decent replacement/upgrade card that will work with the Dell's PSU. Any ideas? TIA!

It will. The only real downside is that you won't get audio through the 8800.
 
I just got a refurb Inspiron 518 and added a 4870 and Corsair PS . I have it hooked to my Pioneer Kuro plasma via a monoprice DVI to HDMI cable. It works great. Personally I prefer the cable with DVI on one end, HDMI on the other but I inline adapter should work as well.

I just got a DVI/HDMI cable, will try that as a stop-gap solution. I don't need audio through the video card, I just need the TV to be able to function as a monitor - my speaker set will do just fine through the Audigy soundcard I have in the tower.

That's highly encouraging, actually🙂. Was yours a 1GB version?

 
No, I just got a 512MB version. I have a Pioneer Kuro Plasma that is about two years old. Its native resolution is 1365 x 768 so I decided a 512MB version would be OK for my needs. I thought about 1GB version or even moving up to a 4890 because the Kuro will accept a 1080P signal but I decided to go cheap. 🙂

I must say, playing Left4Dead on that 50" plasma is a blast. I can't see myself ever gaming on a small screen again.
