I have a 2000+ now with 266mhz bus and I'm underclocking my memory to meet this speed. So, I'm thinking about buying a 333mhz proc (mobo will support 333mhz) and I was wondering what to get. What would be the best bang for the $ right now? I'd prefer retail cpus cuz i'm not an ocer.

i have a gigabyte ga-7va-c mobo.

Its kind of hard to find a good socket A processor ever since they phased out the athlon XP's..........I would suggest maybe upgrading to a cheap socket 754 system......or if you want to keep your motherboard, get the MOBILE barton 2500+ and OC it (I know you said that your not an ocer, but ocing a 2500+ to 3200+ with unlocked multipliers can be the easiest thing in the world ;P)

To be honest, you should just save your money for an athlon 64. An Athlon xp barton at 2.2ghz would not be even 50% faster then your current cpu. More like 20-30%. The performance difference will not really be noticable within the athlon xp line either.

Actually - assuming an overclock of 2.4 ghz on the 2500+ - he will get a 44% increase in speed. Pretty good in my book...

edit: Just noticed you assumed a speed of 2.2 ghz there. Why is that though? I thought oc'ing a 2500 mobile to 2.4 ghz is pretty easy?
