Upgrading a mITX build I built 6 years ago! (Lian-li PC-Q07)

Hello!!
I built this computer for the heck of it about 6 years ago, and ended up selling it to a friend for use as their family's general purpose PC.

Fast forward and the kids are getting older and are starting to want to play a few games...the one they mentioned is Overwatch. (Looking that up now).

Current specs:
Lian-Li PC-Q07 mITX Case
Gigabyte GA H61N LGA1155 Motherboard
Celeron G530 2.4gh dual core CPU
8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3
Coolermaster Elite 460 PSU
Zotac Geforce GT220 512mb GPU

The budget is somewhere under $500cdn, parts bought from Newegg only.

I'm leaning towards a CPU and GPU upgrade only, GPU will have to be slim, single slot card... but if I put a thicker GPU in I will have to get a laptop slim HDD, so upgrading to a SSD would make sense there.. gonna be tight on that budget!

Looking into it, the single slot video card will limit almost any option for a card that can handle gaming... sad to say but perhaps a different case is best for him...

The game calls for a GTX460 minimum, i3 processor...

Yeah, if sticking with that platform, I would recommend an Ivy Bridge i3 CPU, and a single-slot RX 460 (there's at least one of those models out there).

If you need / want to go higher, I would ditch that platform altogether.

Have you seen my thread on buying cheap OEM refurb / used Dell machines with half-decent Sandy or Ivy qua-cores, and dropping in a cheap low-powered gaming card (under $120), to turn them into "gaming rigs"?

Couple things.. I have a spare cooler master mid tower case if he is willing to change from the cube, which would allow any size graphics card.. as long as the case supports mITX motherboards. Then a processor upgrade and its good to go!

So he's on board with using my i3-2100 and video card in a different case, so I'll be trading him a mid-tower case for the Lian-li (woohoo!) and selling him my mobo, cpu, and graphics card (i3-2100, Biostar TH67+, XFX HD6850) for $250cdn, and then buying myself a GTX1070, i5-6600k for $700cdn 🙂
