upgrading a celeron system

i am running a C400 @ 540 on an abit bh6 rev 1.2 right now. i am thinking of buying a new processor, but not changing the mobo. what options do i have and which one would be most worth the price? how much am i looking at? thanks! 🙂

A 700E PIII cc0 can overclock well up to a gig and maybe even more with proper cooling. Ya just have to use one of 'em slotkets.
🙂

forgive me but are you refering to a CuMine?

i was thinking of getting a C2... any comments about that?

For a Celeron 2, maybe you should try a 566 or 600 and overclock the ***place fave swear word here*** of it!
🙂

hm... so how do i decide between the CuMine and the C2?

and for CuMine should i get a EB processor instead of E?

Depends on your budget really. On the average, a celeron performs 200Mhz slower than it's PIII counterpart.
If you plan to overclock, get the "E" cuz it's default is 100Mhz thus you can "easily" raise the FSB to 133Mhz and beyond. If you're more of the safe and sound guy, then get the "EB" which has 133MHz default.

Get a pretested 700 from the For Sale Forums. Bonkers[/b ]or Compuwiz1 are just a couple of the Members that sell there. A 700 runs at default of 100mhz. Using a slotket and setting it at 133 will net you 933mhz!! Easily done. Just set your mb at 100mhz and rock!

hmm okiez. sounds good.

just a passing question on overclocking. i am running my celeron at 6*91 to get 546 mhz right now, and a 1/3 divider for the pci bus, meaning that my pci bus is 30 mhz. is that underclocking my pci bus?

hmm.. do i have to be concerned about the pci bus speed and the data rate for the hard drives when i overclock? especially with CuMines when we start at 100 or even 133 Mhz?

The 700E P3 cC0 FC-PGA CPU's are the best overclockers at this time.

For a slocket maybe use the ASUS S370-133, and for cooling use the GlobalWIN FOP32-1. Each is available at CompuCheap for $20.

For more info on P3's see this.

P.S.
Yes. You do have to be concerned with the AGP & PCI and memory bus speeds (which increase at the same percentage that you overclock your CPU). This is why I went for a conservative overclock myself as shown here.

we change the memory bus speed which is the FSB when we o/c right?

what should the pci bus speed prefably be? and does this affect the harddisk as well?

i have a c533a on my Bh6 ... does 896 nicely ...

i'd get teh Coppermine if you have the cash ... but the Celeron is a darn good value if you oc it
