Upgrading 4 year old primitive speakers to 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1..HELP!

HEy folks. MY 4 n a half year old 2.1 speakers have died out almost due to wear and tear and they were of cheap quality form the start. Anyways im looking to spend not a great deal unfortunately....bout 100 - 130 CAD. I live in Canada. I'm really new to sound when it comes to quality in terms of "Digital' or analouge or optical. My brand choice is Creative LAbs as they are simply , THE BEST 😛 . Now i bump basically every type of music except heavy metal and country. Im a big lover of hiphop, trance , spiritual trance and fusion music with lots of good bases. Now I know I need something wiht some quality sound, some great bass..and you get the picture.

I have no sound card installed other than an inbuilt sound encoder in my ABIT NF7-s 2.0 mobo, which i believe supports 5.1 dolby digital encoding and has 6.1 audio channel support (whatever that means) . I need advice as to which exact speakers to purchase for the best bang for the buck or for the ebst quality under my price range.

Now ive looked at a few speakers myself and I'll post the links here:

The main confusion i have is to which tpye of speakers to pursue. Now ive read the specs of 7.1 audio speakers and they say they are perfectly compatible with 5.1 and 6.1 systems. My mobo says AUDIO6-CH on it and Im not sure what that means exactly.

Im interested in the 7.1 Creative inspire T7700 , but a friend of mine has them and says they are nothing great, but are above average.

The second link is very appealing to me since it has 575 watt system , but its too costly and out of my budget range. Then again there is a set of 5.1 MEgaworks system that i am also interested in, however it is costly.

PLS help, thanks, greatly appreciated

PS-- would i require extra hardware accel like a new sound card for getting the quality of the sound totally?

Here is the obligatory plug for the Promedia 5.1 Ultras =) these are the ones you want.

Have you checked out the Logitech Z-560's ?

They are 4.1 but are great speakers for the price. Logitech has a pretty good reputation for making speakers with a good price performance ratio. The bass is very boomy on them but your music tastes seem to make that desireable (and you can turn the bass down - although not eliminate it). Anyway $145 Can. is a great price if they do have them in stock.

If 5.1 is required the Z-5300's are a similarly good deal although a bit out of your price range. Futureshop regularly has them for $200 on sale, a deal that my brother just took advantage of.

I say get the best 5.1 you can afford. The 6.1 and 7.1 aren't worth it, especially if you have a price contraint and your system wattage is going to be a lot lower than a good 5.1 setup.

Out of these two get the T7700. It has a 6.5" subwoofer as opposed to 5.25" in the T5400. Apparantly the bass does distort noticeably on the T5400.

I bought the T7900 as I was on a budget too. That and the Z5300's cost nearly double over here in the UK. They're good value for money and worth the few extra $ over the T5400.

All of the Inspire Speakers are HORRIBLE. The only reputable good speakers Creative has are the S7xx series which are one of the best on the market.

Get the Logitech Z-640's which are world better than the Inspires. Or if you have a much larger budget then go with the Pro-Media Ultras, or the S-750's
