hey everyone,

I know its kind of early to look at things for Christmas but whatever. Im looking to upgrade some things on my computer

DFI LanParty UT Ultra
AMD 3500+ @ 2.6
1GB of OCZ Premiere
7800 GTX 256MB
Seagate 160 GB
SB X-fi XtremeMusic

I had an idea of what I wanted to upgrade but Im not sure

CPU : 4400+ or 4800+ (depends on price at time)
HD : 74GB raptor or 320GB HD
RAM : Some 2 GB kit OCZ?
SLi : Prolly not but put it in there :/

Thanks in advanced

What's the upgrade for? Because you will see approximately zero improvement in games with that, unless you get the SLI of course. Maybe some games will be affected by the 2GB of RAM, but probably only BF2 and Oblivion - the dual core and hard drive won't help.

It would be a good upgrade for multitasking though - like if you want to run Photoshop while compiling a big program or something.

Well its not really for any game specifically. just more of a general upgrade. Was mostly leaning towards the new CPU or new RAM.

Adding another 1GB in dual channel will help pretty much everything. The CPU upgrade will really help with apps, but not as much with games (still worth it though). Another 7800GTX isn't really worth it at the price. Just wait it out untill DX10 comes around and you can pick up one of them.

That the thing if I add another GB of ram, Ill go down to 2T as I understand its "slower." Is it really that noticeable? I only play games dont care about benchmark program stats. So if 1t and 2t have very little difference thens sure Ill slap in another 2*512. Also would they be able to over clock the same. Ram timings are 216mhz @ 2.5-3-3-5

from what i understand, 2T is like a 5% decrease in performance...nothing you'll notice or worth whining about.

i think the ram would be the best upgrade. if it's still not enough, then go for the cpu. don't get the hard drive unless you need the space
