In my computer now, I have 3.4 Gigahertz Northwood Pentium 4 and I was wondering would I see a huge increase in perfomance if I go to an AMD Athlon X2 4600. If I see a huge performance, what heatsink would you guys recommend.

You would see some improvement, not drastic, but not really worth the price of upgrading the mobo, chip et..al, IMO

Depends what you're doing with it. Most programs around at the moment aren't CPU limited. A P4 @ 3.2Ghz is pretty damed quick.

If you're doing media transcoding then any C2D or X2 will slash your encoding times. If you're gaming then you're going to be GPU limited in all likelyhood and it doesn't matter how much CPU power you have.

As of right know, I do alot of dreamweaver and photoshop. I have photoshop files up to 120 megs and i probaly work in them everyday.

Then you probably would see the benifit. Photoshop is multithreaded so it'd make use of a dual core CPU. Of course if you're HD limited then it won't make a bit of difference. 😀

Dreamweaver is about as CPU intensive as solitare if memory serves so i wouldn't worry about that.
