Upgradeing my friends comp

Ok, a couple quick questions.. My friend has a P3 450mhz. Im going to slap ona faster processor, and a new video card. Probebly a TNT2. I just need an estimate on how fast a processor i can get if the current one is only 450. I need to know if, by general standards, I can put on a P3 ~700. Thanks

My general rule of thumb is if I can't double the CPU clock speed, it probably isn't worth it. Will he notice the difference between 450 MHz and 700 MHz? He probably will, but not very much. If you can bump him to 133 MHz FSB and an 866-1000 MHz chip he will probably notice it more. If you are trying to keep the costs down (which you must be to be considering a TNT2) then I don't know what to tell you. MAybe wait until more cash is available and make a bigger upgrade, or upgrade one piece now to something better and do the other piece later.
