Ok, so I'm clearly a retard here. Give me my helmet and stick me in the back of the short bus with my tater-tots because I have no idea where in the flipping hell Droid 4 is sticking my photos..

On my D1 it was in the /dcim/camera directory of the SD card.

Well now I have two SD storage areas.. One internal (8gb) and one external (the 16gb card I transfered from my D1)

Obviously when I mount I now get two mass storage areas.. all the photos taken with my D1 remain in /sd-ext/dcim/camera.

in /sd (the internal sd).. there is a directory called DCIM.. Digital Camera IMages right??

Well, none of the new photos I've taken with my D4 are there.. the directory is empty. No images, no subdirectories, nada.. Also they're not going in /sd-ext/dcim/camera either. They show up in the Gallery app so they're somewhere on this damn phone.. Doing a simple search for .jpg has not turned up anything except the old D1 photos.

I'm feeling like a complete tool right about now.. Can someone get me pointed in the right direction here? (No, Google was not my friend either.)

Thanks,
-HD

In gallery long press the image, select more, details and then find the file location. Unsure if that applies for the droid gallery but it should... I honestly am not sure the default location for the droid 4.

Other option is dropbox :) It automatically uploads all images to your dropbox account.

Long press does not give an option for 'more details'.. Closest thing is Picture info.. pressing that returned the following:

No information available for this picture
Unknown location

Still no dice.

Drag that window down further, it's scrollable. It shows Size, Resolution and File Location.

It's not scrollable.. Picture options window is scrollable (the one that pops up after the long press).. I had to scroll down to find Picture info. The window that opens after selecting Picture info is not scrollable and only contains the information I stated above.

This damn phone is about to earn it's wings.

Well I appreciate you trying to help.

BTW, according to "TFM":

To transfer files from your phone to your computer:

Connect the Device to the Computer via USB Cable.
A Notification will appear in top bar. Slide down the notifications bar and tap the notification labeled USB connection.
Tap the USB Mass Storage option.
Verify that the 'Removable Disk' window appears on your computer screen.
Click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.
Click OK.
Click the DCIM folder.
Click the Camera folder.
Copy and paste or drag and drop files from your phone to the corresponding folder on your computer.

closest thing I've found in the DCIM directory is a hidden directory ".thumbnails" which interestingly enough does in fact have downsized thumbnails of all my recent photos.. Where the hell did this mythical "Camera" directory go and what's more, where are the full size photos going if not into this so called "Camera" directory?

Output from shell:
$ pwd
/Volumes/MOT/DCIM/

$ ls -latr
total 192
drwxrwxrwx 1 Adam staff 73728 Mar 3 10:46 .thumbnails
drwxrwxrwx 1 Adam staff 8192 Mar 3 10:46 .
drwxrwxrwx 1 Adam staff 8192 Mar 3 12:17 .motorola_thumbnails
drwxrwxrwx 1 Adam staff 8192 Mar 24 18:15 ..

Yeah, sorry man, that is weird. Normally it's all in the DCIM folder from my experience. XDA and/or tech support may be your best bet. I did read a little on some quirks for panoramic shots, but that is odd. For a temporary solution, try dropbox? It searches for the pics automatically and uploads them to your dropbox account.

Right?!! Me too.

This one's funky and I can't get it sorted out for the moment.. Even went clicking through random directories in the root directory of the phone using Astro.. nothing.

Guess I'll use the dropbox option until I can get to the bottom of it..

Try pulling your card and checking the dcim folder. I did not change any settings, and it is saving everything to /mnt/sdcard-ext/dcim

I wonder how many people who own a D4 have the same exact 8gb + 16gb configuration, due to them owning a D1 previously.

Well the dropbox thing worked and I got the full size pictures over that way so I know they're in there somewhere...

Still getting to the bottom of this. /frustration!

Try downloading a file manager like Astro and searching for .jpg
