I actually think we're going to downgrade to Zync. More points for stuff we actually use the card for.

I have a blue, gold, and a costco amex. The only card I use is the costco card because of it's cash reward perks; I dont even use any of our other visa/mastercards cc's either unless the AMEX is not accepted.

If you have a costco amex do you have to have a costco membership too?

you get the costco amex if you sign up for the executive costco membership. But even if you downgrade to the regular costco membership or cancel it outright, the AMEX card and all it's perks are yours to keep

You have to respect a guy who doesn't burden himself with the physical aspects of sex, but instead surrounds himself with the Zen of material acquisitions.

He really exists on a higher plane of self-hate. Compare your lives to his, then kill yourselves. :|

Moonie would be so proud of you!

That $450 would have been better spent upgrading your piece of shit rig.

lol i was thinking the same thing

But seriously what is the advantage of AMEX offering these cards? I assume everyone that has one would never be late on a payment and rack up interest fees that kill normal idiots.

I guess 4% of what someone with that kind of money spends on the card is a lot of money though...

I'm so confused. Is it a cool thing to get a higher end AMEX card? I only use my debit card for everything.

How exactly do you bring this up in a conversation in order to make it worth bragging about? Credit card showdown fights? Is that your 'trump card'?

"What's up now bitches? I roll on Plats."

No one even accepts Amex.

Precisely.

Well; except for every Airline, every Hotel chain, every Car rental company, every major Department store, every major gas station, most fine dining establishments and almost every website and paypal, but yeah, no one even accepts Amex.

Not so in the UK. I know hotel chains that don't take Amex. Also restaurants.

What benefit, pray tell, is worth over $450?

The one I'm going to get is an aeroplan (Air Canada's points program) amex. If you can spend $30k/yr on it, you'll get a ticket worth something like $500. That's just in regular purchases too. If you buy special things and buy from the right places it'll be more than that. Then there's the stuff like free lounges and food on planes etc.

You also get a free companion ticket per year on a North American flight too that's worth up to $500 or so.

Really though, if you can get the free airline ticket, you're ahead. I'll be doing a lot of traveling for work and will travel home for the holidays with my wife. Having the extra ticket will be nice as well.

The bottom line is I may be putting up to $70k a year on it for work, which will all be reimbursed. The rewards work out to something like 3.5% cash back at that level, but in air points. That works out to almost $2500 in benefit to me, and I have to pay $500/yr for it (Canadian...).

These "high end" cards can be worth it, but you have to spend a ton of money on them in order for it to work. If not, you're just buying $250 jeans.

stupid tax. do you fly that often?

and seriously....black card or your nothing.

if you fly that often, you should have enough status with an airline to be able to stay at an airline's lounge for free, or at a discounted membership rate (less than $450 a year i think).

the platinum card's concierge service i heard is awesome, if you want to get tickets to a sold out event or book an exclusive hotel room/ restaraunt and you do that often, the card's annual fee may well be worth it.

for me i have an amex blue cash, amex starwood and visa united airlines cards. the starwood card has been my primary one the last year and it's great.
