Well Guys,
About two weeks ago I asked you if an e6600 already running 3.6 in another pc would do the same in a different pc with a 6400 in it doing 3.2.
Well I got the 6600 tonight and put it in and guess what, my pc wouldn't boot. Needless to say I was perplexed, I checked all connections and all seemed fine. So I freaked out and pulled out the 6600, replaced my 6400 and same issue. No boot, post, nothing. I couldn't believe it. SO I went through the battery of disconnecting everything and still nothing. I get all fans turning, lights flash in hard drive, dvd rom graphics card kicks fan on high and there is where it stays. No Post. I went all the way down to taking out the ram and video card. WIth both out I get beep codes. when I replace the ram, beeps go away. I replace the video card and fans go full on again. I am lost, any suggestion. I have pulled the battery, waited 15 minutes replaced. Still no help. I know you guys have some suggestions. Man I am frustrated, what could have caused this. I was grounded...
Another question. Since the Board did give me beep codes, does this mean that the cpu is good? Thanks for any and all replies

I would try a bare post with just one stick of memory, video and cpu/heatsink on a phonebook or the box the motherboard came in. If you get beep codes, try moving the memory to a different slot and try each slot if necessary. Someone posted a similar problem awhile back and was able to post with his memory in just one slot, then flash the bios.

Thanks for the reply, I tried the one stick attempt already, actually in all 4 slots, I didnt take it out of the case though since it has been running fine for 3 months now. Man this is depressing. I guess I will give this all a try later this week

Also want to make sure that if I replace the motherboard I am not going to smoke it too with this cpu? Thoughts?

did you have a static strap on and all that kinda stuff? I think I managed to kill a Ti4200 once like that.

Disconnect EVERYTHING except for the processor, main power connections, and processor heatsink / fan. Remove everything else, including CD drivers, hard drives, ALL memory (don't even leave one stick in), sound cards, graphics cards, etc. Start the system. It should give you a series of beeps.

If it does, put in one stick of memory, and don't reconnect anything. It should beep at you again, but this time in a different series of short / long beeps.

If it does, add your graphics card and monitor to the deal. Again, listen for beeps.

If it beeps at you again, reconnect a hard drive and see if it will boot into Windows.

The beeps, as you probably know, are POST error codes. If it does NOT beep at any given point, you've found your problem. If it doesn't beep when only the processor is in, chances are you have a damaged processor or motherboard (fried by static, bent pins on the motherboard, forced into the slot, etc.).

I got beeps with just the cpu connected, but once I plug in the ram, nothing no beeps. Does this point to my motherboard or my ram? is there a way to figure it out without hitting best buy?

Somehow you need to quantify both RAM sticks are good or not. Only way to know if the RAM is good is to test it. Two ways to do it. Test it in another machine or get RAM you are positive that works and put it into your mobo(making sure its compatible with your mobo to begin with).

Okay guys, it was the ram. Props go to cure the Sky and Skott and O1die. I am up and going with some trashy vlaue ram from best buy, when I put the gskills back in no boot. What could have caused this??? All I did was change the processor. I know I grounded out first, and I know i didnt touch the ram. Strange Any way I guess its time to rma this ram. Any pointer on why this happened?

One thing I have learned about RAM modules is that they can go bad at any time for any reason. It can happen while PC is on. It can happen while pc is off and you go to turn it on. It can happen when swapping them in and out of mobo. They can go at anytime for no reason. Could have been static electricity or a surge when you where moving them about in the slots even. One of those life's mysteries. When they give up the ghost they give it up at the worst time usually. When you dont have a spare module or two handy. ::chuckle::
