a 3930k! Wanted to try a new motherboard since my Asus P9X79X Pro has issues running 2x 7970 in crossfirex. Grabbed a Sabertooth and figured what the heck? May as well grab a 3960x while I'm here! I told my friend he could have my old system when I upgraded. Once I saw the news that Ivy Bridge won't be making an appearance until next year sometime in s2011, thought I would do it now.

Also grabbed me an intel 520 :D

This is my first 'true' ROG board, I've had a gene before, but I don't think that qualifies. Board is a beast and I love it. Freaking expensive though.

If only I could afford more unused PCI and memory slots, then I'd be ROG official :(.

oh hell yeah! firefox opens so much faster now! and you should see how quick facebook loads!

With a SSD ,,, Firefox will load in 0 seconds.

I dont see how your processor is making a difference in launching apps...

Every app opens in 0 seconds... you should have kept what you had and gone SSD,,,,,,,,, then what would you say ? Firefox opens instantly 0.0 seconds

no delay.........

You blew your wad on a processor that is maybe 5 to 10 percent faster then Sandy. Ivy bridge isn't a big deal, its just a setup for Haswell .... Haswell will be whole new technology and enhancments...It will be 6 core 12 threads . possible 8 core 16 threads... :whiste:

Haswell will be up to 30 to 50 percent faster then Sandy 2600k . Now that is a worthy upgrade.... :) gl

I think he was poking fun at himself about Firefox. But anyway, I hope you are right about has well.
I would hate to see CPU performance plateau for two generations. Personally, though, IB would be a nice upgrade from my C2D!!!

Guys Intel said it themselves. Core 2 technology is the biggest leap in technology of Intel CPUs. Its new from the ground up.

remember how slow a P4 or Athlon Barton was. When Core 2 came, not only was it fast but literally like 1000 percent faster then the Pentium 4 tech and Pentium D.

Since you have a dual, I ask you couple questions to see if you can wait for Haswell.

Do you use video editing software like Premiere or Vegas,,,,,,, or audio production with Sonar X1d , do you convert a lot of video ? If your answer was yes then by all means grab a Ivy when its out for 300 , fastest model. If you use 64 HT Apps then grab something now. However if you just surf, watch videos, do normal computer tasks... I say get a SSD and wait for Haswell brother.. gl

Again, proof? Not once have I seen anything regarding more than 4 cores on the mainstream version. Haswell-E is a different story, but that is not what you were talking about.

Haswell will be up to 30 to 50 percent faster then Sandy 2600k

Based on? Proof? Anything? Why not just say Haswell will be between 0 and 200 percent faster than Sandy, then you can't be wrong!

Core2 was based off the P6 (Pentium 3) uArch. It was not new from the ground up. It was a big change from the failed Netburst uArch however.
