My new parts are being delivered today so I will have an upgraded system tonight.

pre-upgrade:

1 WD 120 GB IDE HD

16x DVD-Rom (Sony, i think)
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
19" Acer LCD monitor


Replacing the motherboard with eVGA 133-K8-NF41 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI (got it free with the video card)

Replacing video card with eVGA 256-P2-N518 Geforce 7800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16

Replacing CPU with AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939

should keep me happy for a little while.

its about $150 cheaper than the original set up i was going for.

i pretty much had to get a new motherboard and cpu if i wanted to get a pci-e card.

where it says pre-upgrade, that is my current system. i am just replacing the mobo, cpu and video card in that system. everything else is staying.

also, my bfg 6800 died so i sent it back to bfg. they will send me a brand new 6800 if they can't fix mine. the guy i talked to said it sounds like it won't be able to be fixed so when i get the new one, i will sell it, plus i have a guitar amp i am trying to sell so that i can recover some of the cost.

pretty much got everything reinstalled now on my upgraded system and its
running great.

just tried the Fear demo, runs like a freaking dream on all high settings!!! my 6800 had some stuttering and slowdown, this thing flies all the way through!

hmmm...cod2 demo on max settings was very stuttery and lots of slowdowns. looks like i gotta limit some stuff for that one.
