Hey guys,

I just joined this forum and I was wondering if you could help me figure out whats goin on with my new card. I ordered from buy.com/ebay, a new ATI Radeon X1300 XGE 512 MB PCIe card and I was using ATI RaDeon Xpress 200 before. Now my system keeps rebooting itself every so often, and when it comes back tot he desktop it prompts me saying " The system has recovered from a serious error." Now before I bought it I made sure I had the nesscessary requirements to run this car. I have a 300W PSU and Windows XP MCE 2005, which are applicable specs to run the card. Although while I was installing the CD another prompt popped up saying something about Windows XP compatibility logo and the fact that the card didnt have one. I pressed on with the installation and thus, began the problem. In conclusion I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do?

PS- I have DLed the correct drivers, and chipset drivers.

Welcome to anandtech. You need to disable your onboard graphics. Boot into safe mode by holding down either the F5 or F8 key after restarting, then select Safe mode from the screen that will appear. After booting to safe mode, right-click on My Computer, select Properties from the drop-down box, then select the Hardware tab, then Device Manager.

After Device Manager opens, click on the + sign next to Display adapters, and right-click on Radeon Xpress 200, then select Disable. Notice how I did not say select Uninstall? After disabling your onboard graphics, reboot. That should fix you up. Good luck.

Actually come to think of it under Display Adapters in device manager, it didnt have Radeon xpress 200 it had visiontek x1300 and visiontek x1300 secondary so i just disabled the secondary one. In BIOS I have the setting from onboard to PCIe so i think thats why its not in there. My question is though is the secondary the same as xpress 200? Same thing different name?

Onboard Graphics should be disabled in the BIOS. Should be in the section "Integrated Peripherals" > Onboard Video/Graphics.

You dont need to disable the secondary device, I presume from this your new video card has 2 output, hence the secondary listed item..
