Upgraded CPU. Now my computer won't boot

So first I'll post specs
MOBO- MSI z97 pcmate
Old processor- i5-4460
New processor i7-4790k
Ram 4x4 ddr3 g.skill
GPU MSI gtx 980
1 Trion 128gb SSD
1 TB HD
600wt power supply
Cpu Ian cooled by a custom water cooling loop

So my computer has been running fine for a long time now but I decided to upgrade to a better CPU. After I carefully removed the old CPU cleaned all thermal paste on waterblock and applied new paste to the CPU I put it into the motherboard tried to start it and all the lights come on my graphics card fans spin my water pump pumps water through the loop but nothing happens no bios nothing no signal at all. Everything is securely installed. But no signal from the new CPU. Help

You tried resetting the bios? Should be a clear cmos jumper (or button) somewhere.

Answer this and then we can continue. Hopefully it is not as bad as bad new cpu

High likelihood of smashed pins in the socket. Close inspection of the socket upon removal of CPU is required.

I've had to reset the bios for CPU upgrades, especially if I had custom settings. As someone said, pulling the CMOS battery and trying again wouldn't hurt.

Do you happen to know what BIOS version (latest?) that you have installed? I looked through the BIOS list and have noted several updates related to CPU Microcode. Worth taking a look at outside of hardware damage, of course.

According to the compatibility chart, the 4790K needs BIOS v42 to work. If you're running the original BIOS, that's likely your problem.

Z97 boards should have come ready for Haswell Refresh out of the box. That's why they were released. I guess I ought to look at the chart...

Yeah, there was a couple month delay before the Devil's Canyon Haswell refresh chips were released.
Both the 4460 and 4790K are Haswell refresh chips, but a couple months apart.

Hopefully not a bad chip. Same thing happend to a buddy but once he put the original CPU in there it was fine. No bent pins. Try the original CPU and let us know

I've only skimmed this, but did you upgrade to the latest BIOS using the original cpu before installing the new one?
