Upgraded a couple of computers - case fan louder

I just recently upgraded my graphics card from an X1950 Pro to an HD4850. In addition, I repalced an Asus DVD Rom drive with an LG Blue Ray burner. Everything else in my case (Antec P180) is exactly the same. This includes 4 Papst 4412 FGLL fans: two intake and two exhaust. I control the fan speeds with a Sunbeam 4 Channel Rheobus.

Since my upgrade, I've noticed the upper intake fan is noticably louder - though I haven't adjusted the controller at all. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I'll bet it's the vid fan you hear simply through the top fan. It's always possible you bumped that fan while doing the upgrade.

It's not the vid fan. I can hear it get louder when I increase it's speed using CCC. The top fan is esay to tell when I adjust it using the fan controller.

It is probably louder because a different load on your PSU is causing a variation in it's 12V output. In other words, your fan controller is not a type of device were you dial a specific voltage, what you do instead is dial a duty cycle (or resistance, I am not familiar with which method that controller uses) that semi-indirectly results in an average voltage change, that would vary it's output depending on the input voltage.

This is the most likely explanation I have heard so far. I assume replacing the DVD Rom with the Blu Ray burner isn't doing much when it's not being used, so the graphics card is the primary reason for a larger load on my PSU. So, wht if anything so I do about this?

PSU upgrade?

If you had a multimeter you could check the 12v at the fan to be sure.
