Hi,

I have an AMD x2-3800 939 @2.0Ghz(stock) , 2gb ram ddr400 and an ATI HD4850 512mb.
I play at 1280x1024. I can play Crysis and Far Cry 2 but sometimes it slows a bit too much. GTA IV is unplayable or almost...

Do you think an upgrade in CPU would allow me too have a better experience or do you think that the problem is in the GPU?

That CPU is quite old and is definitely holding your 4850 back.

One of the PHII X4/mobo combos on newegg + 4gb DDR2 for $50 would give you a huge upgrade to what you have now and make gaming on a whole much better. It would make GTA IV not just playable, but smooth at medium-higher settings even. Then you can upgrade to a better monitor, budget allowing
