I'm considering upgrading to a athlon 64 3200 90nm socket 939 cpu & a new mobo. I was wondering how much of a performance gain i would get if i upgraded to this. Also if it was worth it how long would it be good, or should i just keep on saving up for sumthing newer.

Thx

I wouldn't spend the money if your current system is stable and does what you need it to do. 64 bit windows will be out soon, and I would wait and see how well microsoft supports it with security updates, etc. I've postponed by athlon 64 upgrade numerous times, even though I'm anxious to try it. My current p4 (overclocked at 3500) is more than adequate for my needs.

It depends. Do you game? If so, then an OCed 3200+ A64 could be worth it. Me, I got "lucky" with an earlier, higher-OCable Winnie (at a smoothe 2.64GHz). I say go for it.

New cpu = $150 new mobo = $100

For $250 you' be better off getting a 6600GT (given 5900xt is slow in DX9 games) and another stick of 512mb of ram. Or for $300 you'd be better off getting x800xl for games.

If you do not game, wait until dualcore cpus to help with your multitasking.

Finally, if you can net some $$ out of your old setup, then by all means get S939. Problem is, this late in the game, I'd probably want to go with PCI express motherboard and your videocard is AGP. This either increases the cost of an upgrade or limits you to AGP S939.
