Have an X800XL which is actually a decent O/C'er. Will do 475/545 stable. Upgrading rest of system to X2 and was wondering if a video upgrade will give me any substancial gains. I play COD2/Quake 4/Battlefield 2 now and things run smoothly.

If the games run as you like, don't upgrade. There will always come something faster down the road, so don't upgrade until your performance reduce your gaming experience.

The best answer would be it depends on your budget. There is nothing wrong with running your x800 XL. Its still considered a good performer. Likewise, there is nothing wrong with upgrading it if it fits your budget.

In my opinion, it depends on your finances and what you want in your system more than anything else. But thats just my opinion ....

EDIT:

If the games run as you like, don't upgrade. There will always come something faster down the road, so don't upgrade until your performance reduce your gaming experience.

Thats sound advice as well ...

Money is not a problem but by the same token, I don't want to throw money at something which will give marginal gains at this time. I'm PCIE so it' woukdn't kill me to wait another generation. Just more less wondering if gains on these newer cards would be substancial enough to notice much difference.

x1900xt :) enjoy :) I lovemy X1900XT , i have owned a 7800GTX and I never was overall impressed so i sold it.

x1900xtx are cherry picked core and they are hell good at overclocking = 740/840 easy :)

I just sold the same card & upgraded to the 7800 GT OC & I've seen some very nice gains...I like the new card...I would recommend it...

I went from an X800XL to 7800GT as well.

A single 7800GT was a vast improvement over my X800XL.
