Right now im running:
a 2.4c @ 2.4 (not one for OC'ing)
2x512 2700 RAM
80g wd hd 8mb cache
9500Pro

would it be worth upgrading to an Athlon 64 2800 and getting a mid range Next Gen or should i just stick w/ my 2.4c and just upgrade to an X800Pro?

If you run an X800Pro on an 2.4c, you're not doing the video card any justice. I'd say the video card would be limited by your CPU.

To go with the A64 setup, you have to get new Mobo+CPU+Ram I don't think you could use the PC2700 with it. At least I wouldn't (Want to)...

So if you decided to go with the A64, what would you do about that 9500Pro? Still run that same video card? Then you'd be choaked at the video card level and not the CPU level.

I'd go for a more balanced upgrade. Maybe keep your current mobo and get a faster CPU, say 3GHz and a 9800Pro video card. That'd probably perform double what you currently are ruuning.

I'd say wait a month or so and get a 9800pro for cheap. That will be more on par with the rest of your system.

I mean, you COULD go ahead and get the latest and greatest, thinking that next time you upgrade you won't have to change that component, but by that time new stuff will be out anyway and you'll want to play with it:)

I am trying to decide the same thing. Keep my 1.8@2.4ghz P4 and just sale my 8500 and get a X800 pro or sale my cpu and 8500 and get a 9800 pro and a 2.8ghz P4 and overclock it. I just have to figure out what will play Fry Cry, HL2, Doom3, and any other new games the fastest at 1280x1024 4AA@16AF max setting a 1.8@2.4ghz P4 & X800 pro or a 2.8ghz@3.2ghz & 9800 pro.

I agree, just get a 9800PRO unless you want to throw out your old machine and upgrade absolutely everything.

I don't think that going to an A64 2800+ would be a very serious upgrade; maybe 20-30% in games? I'm not sure, but that's alot of money to drop on a new platform for incremental gains.

If you really must upgrade, you should at least wait for AMD Socket 939 w/ PCI-E.

You don't overclock...such a shame. If you were to overclock that thing it would probably faster than an A64 2800+ for FREE!! ;)
