I can play most games at 1280x1024 or so with most of the eye candy on, getting 30-40 fps. About 15+fps @ 1680x1050. I have a 3500+, 2gb ram, x800xl 256mb card. Mobo is AGP.

If I go to an X2 3800+ and a 7600gt like in the buyer's guide, will that let me play @ 1680x1050(or 1600x1200 on my 2nd monitor) at playable fps? Or am I looking at a mobo/pci-e upgrade for that too?

my friend told me during black friday X1600's are going to be $100. if that's the case, i'd go for one of those or a 7600GT. it would definitely make it more playable. if you can hold out a bit, i would

you are ok with your current cpu but will need to go up to at least a x1800xt or 7900gt. excellent deals can be had on the x1900xt/x1950xt - have a look in hot deals, but pci-e is a must.

If I were you, I would stick with your current CPU, upgrade the gfx card, and wait for quad core to settle down before doing a complete overhaul. Your system will be fine for all current games at that resolution, though, as long as you upgrade to 7900gt, or equivalent.

Until the supposed AGP X1950s arrive (if they actually do), the best AGP card out there is the 7800GS, which likely isn't worth a lot extra over your current card.

If you can score one on the cheap though, & you don't want to switch to a PCI-e system, that's your best option.

You can get a PCI-e s939 mobo for very cheap though, & then you're set for upgrading to a PCI-e video card, & a dual core CPU if you wanted.

I have the comp in my sig

I run the games that support widescreen at least mostly at 1680x1050 it does a pretty good job my computer is also worse than yours by a little 3200+, 1GB.

I play oblivion at 1680x1050 grass turned off with playable frames it gets slow in certain areas mostly fire and alot of people fighting.

to give you an idea of the games I can play fine:
cs 1.6 @ 1680x1050
cs:s @ 1680x1050 i turn off AA/AF for higher frames but it's not bad with some AA/AF
HL2 @ 1680x1050 I play with some AA/AF with cs:s I recommend turning off though
HL2 EP1 @ no AA/AF I recommend
BF2 Demo @ 1680x1050 with widescreen fix not true widescreen but good frames
Tiger Woods 07 @ 1680x1050 fix gets low frames in certain areas but very playable
NFL07 @ 1280x1024 doesn't support widescreen plays great
SWAT 4 @ 1680x1050 fix plays good
NFMW @ 1280x1024 doesn't support widescreen plays great
Far Cry @ 1680x1050 plays good
Doom 3 @ 1680x1050 fix seems to play good I thought Quake 4 and Doom 3 were based on same engine though.... maybe true Doom 3 is mostly indoors not as much as Quake 4.
Quake 4 @ 1680x1050 ****** engine plays like ******
The Regiment @ 1680x1050 plays good

My new comp will play em better though :) E6600, X1900XT, 2GB

Edit: Left big space at bottom idk how

Heres some benchmarks and remember this card overclocks real well. (I have one).

from your supplied benchmarks it appears that the x850xtpe would be nearly as good and you can ususally find those in the fs/ft forum pretty cheap.
