i am running acronis 11 and when i put a image to my main backup machine from any other machine, it does it all, including mbr so when i restore it i am back and running in ~15mins or so. i am also running xp, so maybe there is a difference w/ the mbr??? to be honest i really don't know as i haven't used vista at all yet.

Is it normal that you have to repair the MBR after cloning?

I've used Acronis for years and this happens on occasion.

Some have suggested it's because the cloning should be done from the "Rescue Disc" and not from the program.

Regardless, it's a great program.

so the os integrity will be affected by doing the repair from windows dvd?

Thats weird, im sure I didnt miss a step, maybe there is always MBR on your source and destination partition?

Thats weird, im sure I didnt miss a step, maybe there is always MBR on your source and destination partition?

even when i wipe a drive clean it still works the same way....

If you're speaking to me, I guess I wasn't quite clear.

The paid version of Acronis offers the option of making a boot disc.

This comes in handy when your machine won't boot and you need the option to restore from an Acronis image.

This is done entirely in DOS and there is a cloning option that can also be used, again entirely in DOS.

Some hint that makes the difference between the MBR being copied or not.

got a problem here, i moved my 2 seagate 7200.10 to my htpc after deleting all partitions in both drives, plugged them in, turned the htpc up, then windows changed my os drive to d:, after bios screen, it said "missing operating system", tried repair in windows, no good.

but if i removed both seagate hdd's, it booted up without problem. also tried swapping the os drive (wd 640 gb) to different sata ports, couldnt fix.

how do i fix this?

how are the 7200,10s attached and also how is the 640GB hdd attached? running anything in any type of raid?

no raid, 4 sata ports on mobo

1. wd 640 as os drive
2. samsung dvdr
3. 7200.10
4. 7200.10

i tried deleting the partitions in the seagate by booting up using vista dvd, exit setup, reboot, my original os drive is still being recognized as d: so the computer thinks there is no operating system.

it means my empty seagate becomes c: now, how to i change that?

i ended up reformatting it by connecting 1 drive, then plug in the extra 2 seagate hd, so it is solved now, thanks for all your replies guys.

btw, i strongly suggest that when you install vista, just plug in 1 hd so the mbr wont be on another hd since vista always mess up with drive order. i did massive net search in these 2 days and many victims there.
