Right now i have a 7800gt. Iam going to have money in a few weeks and was just wondering if its worth it to get sli. Iam not keeping up to see what the best way is because i didnt really need to. Right now i have a amd 64 3200+ and 2gb ram. The amd has no bottlenecking or lag for my computer, so no need for a upgrade unless sli will make a difference.

if you arent seeing any stuttering at 1280x1024 or whatever res you are running at, then you are completely fine without SLI.

SLI is desirable only if you experience stuttering at much higher resolutions...and want to look uber cool in the process because you have 2 video cards! *gasp*

SLI is cool (I have it, and am glad I do).

First, If you have things maxed out and are happy with the framerate, you won't get any improvement.

Consider this as well:

a) Buying a 7800GT ~250 Used, 300 New

b) Buying 7900GTX ~500 New, 450 Used + Selling a 7800GT ~250.

I think you'll get better performance over all with a single 7900GTX than with SLI 7800GT, for either the same price or 50 cheaper depending on prices. The SLI might be better in some instances, but it's not supported in everything nor do you always get double the frame rate.

You're all right with a single 7800GT. It will last you quite awhile. Unless you are psychotic and must have SLI because it looks cool, then I think it'll be a waste of money. The 7800GT shall server you well.

keep it until you see low framerates. by then 7800GTs will likely be cheaper.
