I currently have the moto droid and was wondering in your opinion would it be worth the upgrade with the set of new features it is to have when purportedly releasing next month?

good most of those things don't interest me. however a better camera is always good as ive never seen one in a pone that's not a POS. however it could just be because im spoiled and have had a DSLR for 7 years

I do appreciate the camera upgrade as I don't always have mine when I'd like to photograph something real quick. The HD capture is nice as well along with the wifi-n.

I don't think I would sell mine unless I was able to get a fairly significant amount back to offset the cost of purchasing a brand new phone.

I would wait for Droid 3 or whatever. Phones come out too quickly for it to be worth it to me to upgrade to every iteration of latest and greatest.

Pretty much.
Only nerds with money to burn need a new phone every year.
And most ATOTers would rather spend their 6 figures on Ferraris.

Wait until after its released to make the call. Regardless, it won't be worth purchasing until its been rooted and the roms have had time to bake.

Yes, and send me your old Droid!

That seems nice, I didn't know they were releasing a revision- does it look the same and keeps the same form factor?

Only a few blurry cam pictures of it, mostly of the keyboard. Engadget and BGR have them posted.

Seems to sport almost the exact same form factor based on purported shots.

Slight changes to the keyboard. better form factor, 5 way d-pad is gone (terrible idea in the first place).
Probably slight hardware changes. But don't expect anything crazy with the D2.

Basically a model refresh ala LG enV series

Now, the specs in the OP, that is shaping up most likely to be the Motorola Shadow. It'll be called Droid Something, but not Droid 2.
There's going to be a ton of phones called Droid Something at some point. That's the major brand for Verizon.

No keyboard on the Motorola Shadow, and some significant (and other not so significant) hardware changes.
Worth it to you, that's your choice.

Me?
My Moto Droid is just getting into it's kickass groove.

JRummy Remix Cyanogen Mod v5.0.7.1
Bekit 7step 1.2ghz LV kernel
LauncherPRO
DarkEdge Blue UI

my god this thing runs like a champ, silky smooth operation, looks like a professional UI overhaul.
LauncherPRO is simply amazing as a replacement home. App drawer is OMG smooth, snappy. Screen preview and scroll is perfect. And app dock, though not customizable like Helix Launcher afaik.

I don't know that HD recording/playback is THAT necessary that I'd upgrade my phone for it. Hell, I'd hold my money back on principle if Motorola was dropping OS upgrades for the first Droid because of it. Is that the case?

I'd like the HD playback just for the fact i watch a few movies on mine currently but I definitely would like to see the reviews before I was to drop any cash on it to say the least.

As an aside, have you checked out the themed ADW launcher?

I'm loving the ADW Launcher, very snappy and smooth, and highly customizable. The stability has been much improved in the several updates since .7 Beta. Haven't had any crashes since I upgraded to .7.3 on the Market, .7.5 is the latest version.

Currently running CM 5.0.7.1 and the Droid is smooth as butter unthemed. I'll probably install SGE again before too long, but there's some bugs that need to be fixed first, pin lock and brightness FC.

Well, I have now checked out that launcher (market version).

@Spoooon:
The included snapshot didn't do much for me, but after searching and finding out there is a flick up feature on the dockbar, my opinion changed.
But I didn't want to abandon the awesomeness of how LauncherPRO felt.

Well, whatever the two used as source coding and inspiration, it appears they both went about it the exact same way. ADW feels exactly like LauncherPRO, except with just a hint of more awesomeness and a whole lot more customization. :)

Thanks! I have made ADW the default.
Now to my homescreens all over for the 3rd time in a little over a day.
