What's a worthy upgrade? I mostly play Stalker, CS:Source, and I'm waiting for ET: Quake Wars now.

Please let me know your thoughts... I'm buying today! :) I figure my price range is <$300.

And if you have an idea what kind of FPS increase I'll get.. that would be appreciated. I have had issues with the ATI Card in Vista because of drivers, but otherwise it's been pretty decent.

In my opinion it's not worthwhile to upgrade to anything other than 8800GTX from X1900XT 512 which is a fast card even today. <$300 8800GTS 320mb is your only bet and it often has trouble outperforming the X1900XT 512mb card, sometimes outperforming it by 20-30%, not enough to spend full $300. I'd only upgrade to 8800GTS 640 at minimum (assuming you play at high resolution > 1600x1200) if you can sell X1900XT. Otherwise I'd wait until Crysis, U3 and other games come out.

Reading the reviews here: http://techreport.com/reviews/...gts-320mb/index.x?pg=6

It shows that the X1900 XT (256 MB) is running at almost half the frames of the 8800GTS. Granted I know it's 256 vs the 512 I have, but as I've seen in the past, that the extra memory doesn't make a huge difference.

Any other opinions are appreciated.... U3 is one I'm waiting for, not Crysis so much, but DEFINITELY Enemy Territory: Quake Wars... :)

Thanks again!

in that price range, only thing worth upgrading to is a 8800gts 320mb, perhaps you could get a 8800gts 640mb for 320$ or so, should look around. If it is worth upgrading right now, I'm not sure. CS: Source can't be giving your trouble with your 1900xt, maybe Stalker does, but since your waiting for ET: Qauke wars, why not wait till then with buying a new videocard ?

Quake Wars is out in less than a month... I figure it's best to start looking now. I usually keep my video cards for a year or so. I think I can hock the X1900XT in FS/FT to make a few bucks back.

Save your money and wait until ET:QW or UT3 are out, then get at least an 8800GTS 640MB, preferably 8800GTX.

Have you played the ET:QW beta? If you haven't, you should know that it's probably not worth waiting for (unless it is improved big time, the game sucks IMO.) Anyway, it should have no trouble on an X1900XT...it's not too demanding (graphics, at least on that beta map, really, really suck.)

The 8800GTS is going to be a good upgrade from the X1900XT, even the 512MB version (memory on the X1900's does make a rather large difference, depending on the game), but I can't see upgrading to an 8800 at this point. You might as well wait for the future cards from AMD and nVidia. From what we've seen, the 8800's aren't really powerful enough for DX10... I think it's going to be best to wait.

I upgraded from an X1900XT 512MB to an 8800GTS, but that was back in January when I could still get $230 for my X1900XT, and the 8800's were new. Right now I just don't think it's a good idea... the 8800's are geting close to a year old and better things are just around the corner. Also, prices on the 8800GTS cards are not too appealing for a 8-month old card. I paid $370 AR for mine in January, the going price for one now is something like $350.

I have to download the demo and see how I fare with it... if it's livable I'll stick with the X1900.... and wait it out until UT3. I don't really have an interest in Crysis since the multiplayer isn't going to be "all that" from what I've heard, and I generally buy games that I play multiplayer. We'll see though.... time will tell :)
