Abit Kt7
3dfX Voodoo 5
Tbird 900
64 PC 100
64 PC 100
128 PC 133 (no use at 133)

Should I purchase a 512 PC133 memory module, or use that money plus others to go to a DDR board, DDR memory, possibly new GFX card and possibly new processor?

Question is - is it worth it at this time to do as such!

Thanks,

MallowJr,

I'm in the exact same boat as you (KT7-RAID w/900Mhz Athlon). My plans are an nForce based Asus with the newer 1.5Ghz+ Palomino around October. It's hard to wait , believe me I know. One cheap way you could hold off would be to get an ECS K7S5A, provided you can find one, for like $70 and 512 of PC2100 DDR for about $80. I would leave the 900 chip in there. To tell you the truth, you won't see a huge gain from 900 to about 1.3Ghz at least not in games and stuff. With the money you save, and by selling some of your other stuff you could get a Gforce2 GTS. That would significantly affect your fps in gaming and such. How much money do you have to upgrade?

I have about $600 to upgrade + whatever I get from selling my voodoo 5 (about $100), and my abitkt7/900mhz/256RAM (maybe $120?). So that's about $820 to get a $300 gfx card, processor, board, memory. That leaves $520 for processor, motherboard and memory.

I need to see improvements in games, right now I'm running at 60FPS in 1024 resolution, my ideal resolution of 17" monitor, I had a 21" trinitron but it didn't seem as sharp as my smaller trnitron so I returned it. I guess the longer I can wait the better deal I can get on hardware and price.

Same to you!

You could get a
ECS - K7S5A SiS 735 (DDR Mobo) for about $65.00
AMD - 1.4GHz Athlon C (TBird) 266Mhz for $107.00
Thermal Compound - Arctic Silver II $6.00
Crucial ? 2 X 256 MB PC 2100 DDR Ram for $76.00
And a Fan for your! 4 about $30.00

Total $284.00

And you still have $236.00 Left

ST4RCUTTER - I wouldn't go tooo excited about the Nforce quite yet. They are going to be expensive (I heard 150 +) and there has been no proof they are worth the additional money.

MallowJr - The Palimino core will run faster per clock cyle, be cooler (20% i heard?)... They are well worth the wait.

BTW the only drawback to the ECS - K7S5A SiS 735 is you cannot change the multiplier.

Good Luck Guys!
