I just upgraded two comps to hyperthreading. One i reinstalled XP so i know HT is on. But my server, i really don't feel like reformatting (got TONs of data on it and don't even know where to begin to backup all the configuration files). How do i know HT is enabled? Its still fealing kinda slow and the Task Manager doesn't have the two CPU charts like elsewhere. But the deivce manager shows two CPUs. Do i have to redo HAL or APIC or something?

install APCI multiprocessor from device manager, or install new hardware i think....that should do it..
also ur motherboard better be HTT ready!! and enable it in bios!

if you dun mind...u can do me a favor?? can u block pin A31 on ur cpu after you have gotten hyperthreading working and see if hyperthreading is temporarily disabled? A31 is located in grid: U4 (top right of the processor).

find the pin here: P4 Pin pdf file

trust me it won't damage ur chip, the A31 is only responsible for the enabling and disabling feature of hyperthreading...it'll help alot! thnks

couple questions....

1) What are the mobos and do you know if they support hyperthreading??? Must have bios support....

2) Is winxp the operating system of both computers???

A simple program like sandra under cpu/bios should tell you whether it is enabled or not....

When I upgraded to Hyperthreading all it took was 1 reboot to enable it.

XP detected it then asked for a reboot & that was it,after a reboot I had hyperthreading.

Hmm...I have hyperthreading enabled in my bios and my cpu supports it but xp will not pick it up. Any Ideas here? I can't seem to figure out how to install multi-processors in device manager.

There is "supposed" to be a driver that is installed for a 2nd processor. I believe that HT is invisible to the OS - it thinks there are 2 processors. Have you updated your motherboard drivers?

I think that I have the latest motherboard bios. I ran sisoft Sandra and it shows HT as enabled on the motherboard but not on the operating system. Also only one processor still shows up in task manager. I tried updating the computer driver to a multi-processor pc but it won't give me the option. I have heard others say all they had to do was restart the computer with hyperthreading enabled and XP picks it up right away. I'm not sure what the deal is. Maybe I will just have to try and re-install.

Do you think the service packs might have something to do with it?

I did a repair of XP and switched to a multi-processor pc but still no luck. From what I hear XP with service pack 1 is supposed to detect it automatically.

I just picked up a HT chip, and I'll be installing it this week. What seems to be the general consensus when upgrading? Do I have to reinstall WinXP, or should it automatically detect the HT chip? I'll be going from a P41.7 to a P4 2.4c. I've got a Asus PHP800 Dlx, and Win XP SP1. Sorry if this has been asked before. This was the only thread I could find by searching.

Thanks!
