Currently, I am running the GeForce Ultra 64Mgs which cost around $299 when I purchased it around 6 months ago, would it be worth my $$$ to upgrade to the GeForce 3 right now or should I wait for the G3 to mature? I am happy with the performance the Ultra is giving me it's great with TF and Counterstrike multi player online gaming, would the G3 improve my visuals to the extent that it would be worth it to dish out the $300-$400? and archive the ultra.

Since you're mostly playing those games I'd say you should stick with the ultra. The reason being even a normal gf2 is pretty much overkill for a game based on a modded q1 (or is it q2?) engine.

I have both the ultra and a G3. Used the ultra for 8 months and just got the G3 because I wanted DVI for my flat panel. If you're happy with the performance of your ultra don't bother. Wait for the G3 ultras to come out. BTW the G3 is already mature in my eyes.:)

The Geforce3 is not faster than the Ultra, so you would get zero increase in old games like CounterStrike (what does half-life require, directX 5?).

The advantages of the Geforce3 is that it uses all of DirectX 8's features and allows developers to custom-program features for it.

So you should at least wait for a game to come out that takes advantage of that -- say Doom3. And by then maybe you can skip a generation and get a Geforce4.

Right now, replacing a Geforce2 Ultra with a Geforce3 wouldn't give you frame rates but would cost you alot of money.
