upgrade to 2gbs?

well i am getting anew system in a couple of weeks and i bought 1gig of patriot 2-3-2-5 ram. i have that running my old comp for now untill i get my new set up. should i sell that 1 gig 2X512 to my frind for like $90 and get a ocz 2gb kit? or 4x512 of Gold series

Only if you spend a lot of time playing really new games, ala Battlefield 2, or doing serious photoshop/CAD stuff. For normal usage and the vast majority of games, 1 Gb is plenty of memory.

Nah, stick with what you've got. If you find later that it's oppresively slow, you can upgrade then (at that point memory should even be cheaper). There isn't much sense in spending a lot of money now on something you may never actually need!

I agree 100%. I'm running 1.5 GB of Corsair Value RAM right now & it runs just fine. You'll save a lot of money this way. It also allows you to spend more money on your Video Card & CPU.

I'm aware of that thread. I'm a frequent poster over there (~2500 posts), but that doesn't change the fact that I'm sitting here, right now, with a SD core based CPU, running 4 sticks of 512MB (Ballistix, for reference), that are double sided, at 1T.

Could you give us the complete specs on the machine that is running in that configuration. You are the only one that I've seen with results like that.
