I don't need data, but I also don't want the lowest quality simple one. If anything, based on what I have heard thus far, I think I am going with the best quality Free one, which seems to be The LG v750.

2MP camera, rugged design sounds like I would be significantly less likely to break it, good quality build (from one of the other posters). All seems good to me.

Any of the other free ones seem to outshine that one?

while I sorta agree a lot of the LG phones have been pretty crappy (env2 is alright of them, my biggest complain is how easy it is to activate the keypad in your pocket. why can't I have a dedicated hold button?). but why didn't you have backup assistant enabled? contacts backed up whenever basically.

I'm not sure about the v750 but I do know that the Samsung SCH-u430 is a very high rated phone hence the recommendation.

Palm Centro, 5800, & the 6900 dont require a data plan. I have activated two of those three & used them just on a voice plan. Go to VZW's website & add one of those phones to your cart. When you get to the data plan choices you do get the option of pay per kilobyte. Those phones are older & thus were grandfathered in when VZW enacted their "all smartphones must have a data plan" rule a few months back.

Ha ha darn.. A Verizon agent told me all those phones needed one. Tsk tsk.. Those guys are increasingly underwhelming.

Anyways, SirSteve0, if the Samsung is too barebones what features are you looking for? That could go a long way towards getting a suggestion that better matches your desires.

I am looking for something mainly that will hold up well for 2 years. I have had two Samsung phones before and in both cases I was extremely displeased with the quality of phone. I swore after the first one that I would never get one again but then got duped by a salesperson into getting one again. (not my greatest moment).

The first phone I had to last the full 2 years was my LG which I am now getting rid of. It was a simple phone but it was extremely well built and took a pretty good beating.

Other than that I am not looking for much. I don't have a camera so a phone with a nicer camera would be pretty good. I also like the idea of removable memory for picture taking. A good battery is always a plus as well. I don't need a fancy phone, but I do want one that will last and one that will keep up with working well.

Looking at the Samsung that you mentioned. It is a samsung first off which makes me hesitate. It has a VGA camera (I don't even know what that means but it seems to only be on the older phones). No removable memory. The only thing better seems to be battery life.

To be honest, If I am about to search for some reviews of the LG and if I find some pretty good review I might have to go for it. 2mp camera, removeable memory, decent battery life. I have really like my LG in the as well.

But again, I am no expert at this stuff. Thanks for all the opinions so far.
 
tboo: any other thoughts on the Sway? How is the battery life? Is it hard to slide open? (Some reviews mention this)

I'll be signing up with Verizon soon, and that phone seemed nice at the store. I just need something with good call quality and good battery life, but definitely don't mind some extras.
