Upgrade time!

Alright, so I've been needing a new graphics card for about 6 months now, and I should have jumped on a 4890 when they were still going for like $150... but Bad Company 2 is pretty much kicking my comp's ass currently, and I need to upgrade soon!

Current video card is a 9600gt
Proc: e6750 @ ~3.4ghz
6 gb ddr2 ram
Antec TruePower Trio 550W

Currently, I am looking at either a 4890 (one of the few left) or POSSIBLY a 5770.. Both should be a pretty significant step up (200%?) Any suggestions? Think the prices will drop a bit at the end of the month due to Fermi? Am I correct in assuming my power supply would be able to feed these?

I know the processor may hold the graphics card back a little in some games, but that is acceptable.. I'm probably going to OC the crap out of it (shove vcore up to like 1.47v and see how high I can go.. if it dies, then excuse to upgrade :twisted🙂

The 4890 is more powerful; if you can find one that you trust (used, recertified, open box, or otherwise) for a good price, I suggest you grab it.

Otherwise, the HD 5770 should be a pretty decent upgrade. You do need to state what resolution you play at, though.

Your PSU should be fine for either card.

Maybe it's just me, but I would get the 5770 for DX11 and Eyefinity if you can ever use that function. If need be, you can CFX it down the road too if your motherboard permits.

Go for the 4890, it's a solid card even now. If you can't find one then go for the 5770 but my first choice will be 4890.
