Upgrade time!

Since my last upgrade I haven't really been keeping track of much in the hardware world. Now i'm thinking of an upgrade for my birthday next month but i'm not sure what to get if anything. Here's what I got.

AMD 939 Vince 3200+ OCed to 3600
Abit AN8 Ultra mobo
ATI x800xl PCI-E
1GB OCZ 3200 running dual channel

Now i've been looking at some of the AMD X2's now that price has come down, but i've also noticed the AM2 CPU's. Which are better? 939 or AM2? And what about the new Core 2 Duo from Intel? How much better is that than the X2's and is it worth the price difference?

I'm happy with my video card, it runs everything I play at high or MAX settings but at some point i'd like to have an SLI setup. I don't do a ton of gaming so I don't think a mobo and video card upgrade is needed unless I go with an Intel chip.

I'd like to upgrade to 2GB of RAM as well but is DDR2 that much better than DDR?

Any advice would be apreciated. Thanks.

What is it that you are unhappy with on your current system? What about your monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc? I just got a g15 KB and it's a great upgrade for 65 bucks or so. Also, do you need more ram right now? The prices have gone pretty high in the last month or so. Might be better to wait a while and maybe they'll go back down.

I've got a ViewSonic VX924 monitor, Logitec S510 keyboard/mouse combo, Logitec 5.1 speakers, 2 200gb HDD, NEC 3500 DVD-RW which i'm happy with.

i've got a few hundred to spend, this computer is used for everything. Gaming, web, light video editing, you name it, I do it on this computer. I'm looking to make this my gaming rig and in the future get a laptop for my other stuff but thats a ways away.

OP, whatever you do, make sure you get 2 gigs of ram

I'm planning on adding another gig no matter what. I'm just not sure if I should go ahead and just get another gig of 3200 DDR or make the jump to DDR2 and do a full MB, CPU, RAM upgrade.

OP, whatever you do, make sure you get 2 gigs of ram

The rebate takes about 5minutes to complete and it's like getting paid, 5 minutes of your time for an $80 rebate equates to $960 an hour or $1,996,800 per year (40hr week).

Ram is expensive right now. I doubt the 1 gig you have is really holding you back.. that being said, you have a 'few hundred dollars' let's assume you have 350 dollars to spend:

Why buy a heatsink or waste money when the cpu already comes with one?
