I have been with tmo since 2004 when I had gone through 3 different kind of Sidekick I really love tmo very much but Sidekick 3 is old now I decided to try iPhone 3G I find it not right for me. I should have gone with G1 or BB Curve or Sidekick LX 2009. SK LX is the most expensive than any phone (250.00).

iPhone cost after 1 year = $1374.76 after 2 years=$2514.52
G1 cost after 1 year = $1217.75 after 2 years=$2237.51

So in the price department, the G1 wins.

I have a G1 and really like it. I think the iPhone is for douchebags.

That being said, I think your costs may be off. The service costs (defined as cost after 2 years - cost after 1 year) for the two companies come out as:

AT&T = $94.88/month
TMobile = $84.98/month

As a TMobile customer since 2006, you qualify for their "Loyalty Pricing". Should should be able to get unlimited voice at all times for $49.99/month. Add in internet with unlimited texting and it's the $84.98/month you came up with.

With the AT&T price of $94.88, subtract the iPhone data plan. That leaves you with $64.98/month. Then take out the unlimited iPhone texting and you only have $44.98/month for a voice plan. For $44.98 you can only afford the 450 anytime minute plan. A comparable Unlimited everything plan would actually be $149.99/month.

I calculate your true cost comparison at:

G1 = $2237.51
iPhone = $3834.76

for 2-year contracts.

My pile 3000+ of roll over minutes on my 450minutes/month plan is effectively unlimited for me. :)

That has nothing to do with AT&T and it's coverage. AT&T has crappy coverage and high prices.

Do you think Sprint coverage is better? It is far worst than at&t in this area, and since they are still losing a million+ customers a quarter, something tells me that they suck in other places too.

Prices, yeah can't argue concrete numbers. Coverage really depends on where you are. My work place can get AT&T coverage in the building and Verizon you get nothing. As a result unless I remembered to turn off my phone before going to work, I'd end up with a dead cell phone by the end of the day as it kept searching and searching for a signal.

I chose my 3g on edge over the 3g android,might give the android 2 a shot when the time comes as I have been due a full upgrade since march,tried a memoir but did not care for the touch system and you have to hack the crap outta of it to get a real web browsing experience and opera / google maps,etc.....so took it back and fired up the iphone ...:beer:
