While I have been very happy with my 2008 G35x the itch to get something a little more sporty has become noticeable.

I recently picked up a cheap Jeep for the shop so I no longer have to have 4wd in my sedan. I have considered in the past and almost pulled the trigger on a 2004 Cayenne turbo that I made a thread about and was talked out of by my ATG friends here.

I am glad I didnt pull the trigger then so I am asking for y'all s sage advice!

I have an offer on my Porsche that I am comfortable with so that is about to get sold. I took it for a lovely drive yesterday to say goodbye. I almost talked myself out of it since the top was down and the engine was revving nicely. With that gone I can play around with the stable.

A friend of mine has a 06 E55AMG sale right now that has somewhat piqued my interest.

I have actually worked on it so no surprises there.

I am also considering a 2004-2006 Maserati Coupe GT or a Quattroporte. Ferrari F430 engine manual transmission so flappy free.

Others in consideration

996 black on black psm
Cayenne turbo
another benz

needs

4 seats or 5. Can get away with a true GT car like the Maser since back seat is big.

Reason so drawn to e55 is price/condition/known entity.

Any cool things I have missed?

panamera? i think its fugly but its supposed to drive pretty well

They are about 10k more than I want to spend. If they were even 5 k cheaper I would go apesh@t and buy one.

May change op to reflect price. Want to stay below 35k

oh makes sense. I didn't realize that was the old body style...i thought you were talking about the gran turismo

oh boy I wish!

Thing is the older coupes are nice cars with the ZF manual. The Cambiocorsa got a bad reputation because of the misuse and abuse people put on them. I would still at the end of the day prefer the real manual.

That color combo was my fave too. They sold it for 20k

I would go for the E55 of the cars you listed.
But that's because I love fast sedans. I have also always loved AMG sedans of all flavors.

It is very fast for its size. I really was surprised at power delivery. Handled great on highway and was ultra quiet at at low engine speeds. I still have fear of the big ticket part failure though this thing has been well taken care of.

I too always wanted something AMG.

AMGs are hard to pass up.

First 2 years of the new quattro porte have pretty serious (read: EXPENSIVE) clutch problems:
1) The F1 hydraulic pump relay tends to fail, keeping the pump on and burning it out. The part itself runs about $1.5- $2K from ferrari

2) Driving the car in the auto mode eats up the clutch like no other (~$5K job)

I've definitely considered the QP myself, would be a fun thing to DIY on.

Ya the cambiocorsa for the first few years wear like crazy in auto mode. If you use them right they should last 50+

Buddy of mine had a spyder for a little bit and he had the cats go bad. Exhaust cost him 2k.

You do get the ferrari parts tax. At the end of the day I personally would be ok with the expensive parts because it would be fun to learn the platform and listen to that glorious engine all day long.

Here is one locally I drove yesterday. Was very well maintained but wrong color combo for me.

If only grand sports were a little cheaper.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me since pretty much all the cars you've listed will be somewhat expensive to repair.

I'd probably go for the amg since you sorta know its history and its a pretty awesome car in its own right.

Your probably right. I drove the AMG in the OP again with the wife and she said she liked it and wouldnt mind driving it herself. I was almost ready to get the AMG till I watched all the top gear and top speed episodes with the M5 in it.

GD you clarkson...

My dream of an M5 with Dinan TBs, exhaust, H&R springs with a Tune from Turner in Chicago would be so close to reality its not even funny. May go look at an M5 in chicago with 79K miles for 27K. If I do get an M5 I would literally EXPECT the SMG to go bad so it wouldnt surprise me.

Those Supersprints are so sweet!!!

Would I miss launch control if I get a manual?

This color would be AMAZING
