upgrade RAM or buy new comp(go to refined thread

hey guys... my earlier building new comp thread didnt go through cos parents pulled funding...

now my ageing macbook(aluminum unibody 2008) is getting very slow and hanging up a lot if i have more than word and safari open. i cant even use anything after adobe CS2 fast.

specs are-
2.4 ghz c2d
2gb ram
250gb 5200rpm hitachi hdd
nvidia gforce 9400M with 256mb memory

i am planning to either upgrade to 4 gb ram or buy a new computer. what do you suggest. my budget is around $1500(comps in india add around $200 to the us price tag)

i should mention that a laptop is prefferred here but not entirely necesarry.

should i go in for a dell xps15, hp envy, other good computr. looking at a screenzise of around 15inches

i would go for the macbook pro 15inch i7 but thats crazy enpensive in india. its like $3000 😱

or should i go the building my own computer path the thread here: has that parts im debating for if i go this way..

and just incase... heres that questionaire thing 😀

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Video editing on vegas pinnacle and more, Master Suite CS5, light gaming lke warcraft and starcraft, loads of schoolwork, song editing on accoustica, database managing and BitTorrent dwnloading
plus i have like 100gigs of music and pics togehter so a large harddrive is sorely needed

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

aroudn say $1500. more if i sell the macbook

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
Intel and prefer Nvidia
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
none... unless i use the macbook with upgraded ram

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
loads of em 😀
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
probably default+turbo if laptop, if i build the desktop then mebbe overclock

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
dont do much gaming beyond online stuff like maplestory, runescape, warcraft... so sorta clueless here

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
in 2-3 weeks(build, buy/upgrade) PS i cant hold out till sandy bridge so do not mention that 😀

10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.
please HELP 😀
 
oh yeah and i tend to not shut down a computer... (if its a new laptop battery over 3hrs with wireless is fine)...

i prefer having it on for 2-3 days at a stretch... and i have liek 10-15 gigs of sklwork adding on to this and 15-20 of movies/tvshows
 
ya reformatted 3 months back... it slows down after safari with 40+ tabs and 3-4 word documents... if i have imovie/garageband open it refuses to work... plus a lot of my work in final cut express doesnt get done cos its always rendering
