Upgrade question

I have an older system that I am buying a new case for (Antec Sonata $59 after rebate with 380w True power supply) and a NEC2510A DVD burner for and I am wondering what an upgrade would do for me if I went that way.

CURRENT
Asus A7V266 MB
XP 1500 CPU
1GB RAM PC133 I think
Maxtor 160GB HD
Powercolor 9800SE
Soundblaster Live

UPGRADE
A64 2800
EPoX 8KDA3J
1GB Kingmax PC4000
CHAINTECH 7.1

About $500 for the upgrade not including the case and dvd because I am buying those anyway. I use it for light gaming (Delta Force and maybe America's Army) and internet no OCing, would I see much improvement for the $500 or should I wait a while longer?

Thanks,
I cant see where I am lacking in performance ( but I am a newb) of the limited stuff I do other than having an old system and no bragging rights.

Softmod that 9800 SE for a big jump in vid card performance which is free and undamaging! Omega drivers are what I use and they run fine. Bump up my vid performance quite nicely. Otherwise I agree that you should probably wait for a little while as your current system suits your current needs just fine

Oh, that upgrade would definately make a difference. The boost in ram speed alone would really enhance your gaming. As an example:

I had a 2500 barton on some old crap board that only ran the FSB at 133 instead of 166 (with DDR ram). When I upgraded the board and OCd to a FSB of 200, games like BF1942 that ran somewhat jerky became completely smooth. Yours would be a similar situation, but more so since you don't even have DDR ram. Ram makes a huge difference for gaming.

However, you probably don't need the PC4000 ram unless you really want to overclock. 3200 probably the way to go.

not really worth it. save your money 'til pci xpress is in full swing and then upgrade everything.

btw, why are you upgrading the case and psu? might want to wait til the btx cases are out there...
