[UPGRADE Question] XFX Black Edition GTX260 Upgrade

Alo,

I bought this computer from a fellow ATOTer and so far i play a few games here and there, no problem. But i am thinking of upgrading the video card from the one I have.

Here is my comp spec:

Monitor Dell 2405FPW @ 19x12

Question:
* Either 4850X2 ($329AR) or XFX Black Edition GTX260 ($279.99 AR), but i probably will go with the XFX because of cost.
* Will my Power Supply be ok for the XFX? Here is the link for the spec of Newegg Link
* Should i wait for the 55nm Q1'09 NV card?
* EDIT: Will my CPU also bottleneck this XFX card?

I am playing at 1920x1200 res on my Dell and i was thinking if the XFX is a good choice. My typical games: L4D, TF2, The Witcher, those are the three active ones.

EDIT: Looking forward to play Crysis and some future demanding game perhaps?

I know you can play L4D and TF2 fine at 1920x1200 even on a Geforce 8800 GTS 320 with 4x AA and 16x AF with all details on high. Why upgrade if those are the only three main games? I don't believe The Witcher is very demanding either.

Well, i can't really play L4D on high, usually i put as medium effect, medium detail and high shader. No AA, no AF either and it usually dips below 30 fps here and there.

Probably to play future game as well, i have not really play Crysis or anything like that. Looking forward maybe to playing that when i upgrade my video card.

Sounds like you're CPU limited. If your CPU isn't OCed, I'd suggest OCing it and seeing if that fixes your performance issues.

Upgrade or OC that cpu a bit. My VST on CS went from 187 to 225 with i overclocked from 2.33 to 2.5Ghz. Even with my above average video card i'm still crazy CPU limited.

Huh, a 20% performance increase from a 7% OC? That's interesting.

I wont get the HD4850X2 (well the sapphire version anyway) since its a very loud card. According to TPU, the card has its fans at 12% and records a noise level of 41db.

yea, i won't be getting 4850x2 i guess, i much rather get the xfx one. But i think i will hold abit on upgrading since the system is cpu limited anyway. Been fiddling with OC'ing my CPU for the past 2.5 hrs, temp is going to the roof with 333 FSB, ugh, gotta get aftermarket heatsink i guess.

Thanks for the info guys. My goal is to OC my CPU first and we'll see on upgrading my video card.

I can run the screens if you would really like to see it. It probably had something to do with the increased memory bandwidth as well as clock speed. Apparently the performance increases with overclocking could be multiplicative instead of additive because there are so many variables to the situation. I'll redo the test a few more times just to see if there was anything i changed or overlooked.
