Im upgrading to a MSI neo2 Platinum / 3500+ / 1gig pc 3200 corsair.

I got everything installed and went to post. My processor and memory were detected but it hangs on Detecting IDE drives. I have my hardrive in IDE1 and my DVD rom in IDE2. I checkd that the cables were snug and even tried my old cables from my epox 8kha+ setup.

I let it sit for 2 or 3 minutes and it got to windows setup and said it couldn't find my harddisk. So I rebooted and it hangs on Detecting IDE drives.

I'm using my old 40 gig IBM harddrive. Only new components are the mainboard, proc., and mem

Any tips or advice?

thanks

check your jumper settings. On some hard drives if there is only 1 drive, you don't need a jumper, which tells the computer it's a single drive. I've run into similar errors on other peoples computers because of that very thing. Make sure both IDE channels are enabled in the bios just to be safe.

So the jumper settings on the harddrive could be different for an epox board and an MSI board???

No, jumper settings are drive independent, have nothing to do with the MB. Take western digtal hard drives for instance. If you are using a single drive, you don't use any jumpers on the drive, which designates it as a single drive. You only use the jumper to set master if there is going to be a slave. Might not be the case in your scenario, but it's a place to start. And the main place i've seen this happen is on epox boards oddly enough, jumper setting is wrong, and after it posts, it takes about 1.5 minutes to find the hard drives and then they don't work.
