upgrade path

Hi everyone!

I was thinking of upgading my old system, here are the specs:

celeron 300a
BX Motherboard
128MB PC100 RAM
15 GB Maxtor HDD
3dfx Voodoo3 2000 VidCard

Whats the most cost-effective (price/performance wise) upgrade path?

Should I get a faster Celeron and use a slocket?
Should I try a P3?
or bet the farm and go Duron?

I am impressed with the Duron but am wary of having to change so much stuff from my old system...if Duron is the way to go, which of my current components can I keep/are compatible?

cheers!

My Mobo is a Jetway BX-7AN

Middle of the road Mobo..nothing spectacular about it

Thanks for the suggestion!

Get a MSI K7T-PRO2A & a Tbird 800 or money is tight get a duron 600+

Your gonna need a 300watt psu to.

Not sure what your budget is, but I recently did a pretty good upgrade from a P233MMX to a Celeron 600@900 with an MSI-6309 MB from multiwave.com. It is currently $170 plus shipping for the MB, CPU, and hsf. If you want to go the Duron route, they have the MSI-6330 (Pro 2) with the Duron 700 for $179 plus shipping. I went Celeron, because I was familiar with the 6309 board and have been well pleased with it. Also, I was concerned that a 250W power supply might not be enough for the Duron, and had heard stories about Durons cracking when installing the heatsink and fan. I wound up actually buying a new case and Geforce 2 MX video card, so my total upgrade wound up at just under $400. Well worth it, in my opinion. (Although most people flame me for not going with the Duron :Q )
Good Luck, Chuck
