You should've bought S939. I feel left out in the cold also, with my S754 chip. But it was the best thing to buy at the time. Be like me, and hold off until the Dual core chips.

You can grab a newer opteron, they're still 940 iirc. I think they're at 2.4 ghz atm.... opteron 150... correct me if I'm wrong. Also, the FX-51 is a 2.2 ghz right? OC it a bit and you'll be fine for a couple more years at least. IMO, just grab an agp 6800GT and drop it in. Keep that setup until the next gen graphics and dual cores are readily available.

you dont really need to get a new cpu...just get yourself a 6800Ultra, or an X800XT PE (unless theres AGP X850's floating around) and be happy

socket 939 didnt exist probably when he bought it.

as for an upgrade path, your best bet is to get an opteron chip. the best currently is the opteron 252, which i believe is on par with the fx-55, since hte 250 is teh same as the fx-53. video wise, just throw in an x800 xl or 6800 gt. not worth getting the highest end agp card there is anymore.

skt 940 also will be getting dual core chips too. there the opteron 150 that runs at 2.4ghz and like someone said earlier the opteron 252 which runs at 2.6ghz and support see3.

You dont need a new cpu, what you have is equal or better than a 3500+, if you really feel the need to upgrade, just get a 6800GT ++.

Yup - your processor is well ahead of your video card.
