I recently purchased the Intel 330 180 GB SSD and am using that as an excuse to upgrade the CPU + Mobo in the signature below. I live 5 minutes from Microcenter and will be buying from there. I have picked out the following options and would like your opinion. What is the best value, what is the best "bang for buck", what do you think I should go with? I game, playing BF3 and Planetside 2. I have eyefinity but have lately been gaming on 1 monitor, 1920x1080. I also do a fair amount of video editing/transcoding. I plan on overclocking. Which of these options would be best for me?

Option 1: i5 3570k and Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H 1155 Motherboard. $255 + tax.

Option 2: FX8350 and Asus M5A97 AM3+ Motherboard. $255 + tax.

Option 3: FX6300 and Asus M5A97 AM3+ Motherboard. $185 + tax

I know AMD gets a bad rap in these forums but please try to give me honest, constructive feedback based on my uses I outlined above.

If video editing Vishera or Ivy would be good but i would suggest going for a FX 8320 and save some money

Buy the AMD as you already decided . don't start a thread asking what others think. You make your own decision . Buy the highend AMD or the low end Intel. Your choice . These same topics get old . Your just trolling .

How am I trolling? I've been out of the CPU game since the chip in my sig, which has been awhile. I've just started my research and actually just finished reading AnandTech's Vishera review, which wasn't too favorable for AMD. At this point I'm leaning towards the 3570k.

Might want to look at the asus p8z77v LK board too... $85 after rebate. Would be a good match for the 3570K too, with plenty of OC options if you so desire. I have the big brother to that (deluxe, see sig). Am also currently building another system based on the LK.

What are you doing mostly?
If you render movies or encode Videos -> 8350.

If you game: Intel

If you want to save money -> 6300

A note to the mainboard:
I dont like it the VRMs are not the best, I always recommend the Evo R2.0 version of the M5A97, but that is unfortunately not available at your shop. Next best mainboard is the M5A99FX, but that costs already ~50 Dollars more, for that price, you better get the intel system.

I game more than I encode videos. I game all throughout the year, and encode videos mainly in the summer time. Overall many more hours are logged gaming than video editing/encoding.

Why the FX8350 and not the FX8320 ???

If i follow the links the FX8350 cost $199,99 and ASUS M5A97 R2.0 cost $97,77.
Total of 297,76

FX8320 = $159,99
M5A97 R2.0 = $97,77

Total = $257,76

The links for the Intel

GA-Z77X-D3H = $139,99
Core i5 3570K = $169,99

Total = $309,98

Did i missed something ???

Microcenter has $40 off a motherboard with compatible CPU purchase. And the Intel there is a $15 rebate.

Go easy on him, hes been away from CPU technology for long time. Maybe he felt insecure making his own decisions, not knowing as much as the Anand Gurus know. gl

Guys would a FX 8350 render faster then a i5 ? IMO, yes it will.

Your winner is FX 8350, then the AMD gurus will help you OC it, given you have proper cooling.

If you feel sorry for AMD and want to help them out, buy AMD.

If you care about having the best performing machine, buy Intel.

This is a sad but possibly true statement. If AMD fails to compete with Intel ... then all we will be left with is a lack of competition ... and Intel.

Please don't do this. This is a big forum but the world is an even bigger place. We are going to be forever receiving new threads from members asking the types of questions that to some old-timers may seem like the same old question being asked over and over...but you need to leave your jaded views and conspiracy theories at the door.

When you reach the point where your best response to a fellow member is the sort of post you added above to this thread - that is the point in time in which you need to voluntarily step away from the keyboard and go do something more constructive with your time instead of reigning down negativity with a pissy attitude on what is most likely to be a genuine member asking a very legitimate question.

i5 and don't look back. Lower costs to operate when you're gaming for hours with an OC'd processor and power guzzling GPU.
