Upgrade or wait

I have a Dell Optiplex with the following specs:

P4 2.0GHZ
1GB PC2700 RAM
200 GB HD space
FX5200 128MB PCI
Dual Layer dvd-rw
Brand new 19" Gateway LCD.

With Vista JUST coming out, should I upgrade or wait a few months until hardware catches up and Vista has its quirks worked out?

If you have a need for more performance now, then there are definitely choices out there that will leave the door open for the next generation of video/cpu products. I definitely wouldn't upgrade just for Vista for a long time to come.

If you're going to buy retail why wait ?
It's not like the price is gonna change, only if you think you might not ever get it. Otherwise you'll just have it that much longer or sooner

I would not upgrade for Vista.

Independent of that, there are ALWAYS wait and buy now arguments.

Waiting until the price drops is a fruitless venture as prices always drop. Waiting until the next big thing comes out is equally fruitless as there is always another next big thing. Both arguments will have you perpetually waiting.

If you NEED more performance now, I would say go ahead and buy. If you're letting your need (and I'm using that term loosely) of Vista define your "need" here, I would hold off. The drivers aren't pervasive enough and the only real benefit of Vista (DX10) isn't "ready" (no apps that use it).
