I am currently using a athlob xp 3000 and a soyo kt600 plus for two years and everything is working ok but however, it appear that my agp card and mb really hate each other and give me a tons of graphic glitch and not to menation nvidia driver really hate final fantasy xi. I seem nvidia and via board don;t dance well as well when ti coem to driver. So I am considering changing the graphic card to like a ati 1600 but seeing all the new motherboard with am 2 support and pci-e seem to bt the hot topic of the day.

Here is my baisc spec.

This is my current system ---->

AMD Athlon xp 3000 Slot A - never oced

Soyo KT600

512mb of pc2700 ram x2

Nvidia Geforce 6600GT 128mb ( This card REALLY seem to hate soyo/via chipset)

120 gig Seagate HDD x2

Windows XP sp2

If it feastiful for me to do a major upgrade and go all the way to am2 board and pci-e so i cna at least not too worry about boeard being phrase out for a while? I considered getting those 939 or 754 combo in for sale/trade forum but i am worry about them phrasing out soon. Or are they goign to be around for a while like my slot A?

I won;t mind paying a few extra bucks to get good performance but D805 sound really interesting. Is D805 pretty good or should I get soemthign like x2 3800 am2? I am preetty much decide i would get a dual core processor this tiem as well sinxce I usually open several program at one time. Also i haven;t touch pentium chip since my dell p3. In gaming wise and entertainment, is amd still better or intel is good for that as well

also, I don;t need to rebuild everything from stratch. I can salavge my 2 hdd, dvd bruner, dvd rom, sound card, power supply, os from my current rig. If my budget is around 500-600, what can i get for best bang for the buck?

I will probably get ati x1600 when it come out since it is only $100.00 and it is not too bad of a card.

If you are thinking AM2..you could keep your DDR and try 939. Or use that asrock core2/ddr motherboard. Not buying ram will keep within your budget.

AM2 has kind of fallen out of favor..b/c it's essentially the same as 939 and does not outperform Core2 Duo at similar pricepoints.

but my ram is only 166 fsb, won;t using that with newer processor actually slow it down? and what is the asrock core2/ddr motherboard that you were referring to?

a mixture of mmoprg, divx, movie, and maybe fps once a while. Main reason for upgrade is because I gelt it is time to update to a pci-e board and Nvidia board suck very bad for ffxi.

If you're only into mmorpgs and occasional FPS's, then I guess just get a new AGP video card. My friend still runs his OC'd 1700+ with a 7800GS and he runs FEAR at almost highest details with very playable framerates.

Since you're board doesnt like Nvidia, look for a X800XT or X850XT because they're fairly cheap and they beat out a X1600 anything. You shouldn't have to upgrade everything unless you really have to (like for Crysis).

I am thinking about upgrading processor as well sicne recently i felt there are a lot fo slow down when i use several program at once

Also how is that X1650 pro that is supose to come out this week going to comapre to x800 and x850?

Im assuming the X800 and X850 still should be better than the X1650, but the X1650 will come with sm3.0 and some other nifty features if you're going to be using them

Anyone know when is 1650 pro is suppose to come out? I know ti si suppose to retail for $99 and it is suppose to be out this few week, but there is no sign of it

You may want to consider selling off the old parts, because you may need a new PSU depending on what you have now. Good thing about that motherboard is it has two PATA connections, as most now are only coming with one (which would be used by the optical drives).

Geforce is a big no no to me, one of the reason i am upgrading is to get rib of my old 6600gt sicne nvidia got heavt graphic problem with the game i am playing

It maybe better to go with a new rebuild, mainly because of what's available and what's really affordable.

As with power supply, i currently have a Mad Dog Super power 550w power supply with AMD and intel atx +12V 1.3 ATX 2.03, would it work in either x2 3800 or E6300 rig that i am goign to build?

How does this setup look?

The E6300 is more powerful.
The A64 x2 3800+ System costs less.

"bang for the buck" in terms of porformance per dollar, they are both good.
