I'm at a loss on what to upgrade to at the moment,,..... I'm after a "budget" yet kickass upgrade (ie Celeron 300 / BH6 MUST HAVE kind of upgrade at a good price)
I've got a p3-672 now and a GF2 Pro.
I was at a lan on the weekend and Warcraft 3 was showing signs of slowdown on a GF2 MX 400 and an Athlon (standard) @ 1.5ghz with SDR (16bit colour, 1024) - also slowing down on a GF3 ti 200 - Ath XP 1600+ (SDR) and a "morgan" @ 1.3ghz with a GF2 Ti 200 ..... (DDR)
(I admit at least 2.5x quicker than my machine, but I don't want to see slowdown at all)
So basically I figure I want something around this speed.
A true 1800mhz (not 1800+) so I'm thinking .13 micron 2200+ when it's released?
DDR ram, for that nice little 5% boost.
Video I'll be getting a GF4 Ti4200 - that is definately a "celeron 300a / BH6" must have kind of upgrade.
(still not sure one 128 / 64mb version, but lets not discuss that, I'll work it out later)
I also want this baby to possibly run the new doom, if I recall (no, I'm not positive, nor do I have proof) BUT I believe I heard the new Doom might support 5.1 Dolby audio, so I'm leaning STRONGLY towards some kind of Nforce setup.....
Now this new AMD .13 (sigh we are all waiting) isn't confirmed for 333 / 166mhz FSB support yet, so I WILL be overclocking (FSB) the chip to 166 if it supports it or not >🙂 (which means unlocking it, if I want to keep it at the "stock" mhz it ships at)
Of course I could overclock it from 133 -> 166 getting free speed out of it also (13.5x 133 = 1800mhz, or 2250 mhz @ 166fsb)
HOWEVER I'm a noise "fanboy" - I hate machines that sound like jet engines, they give me the $#!7$ so I adamantly refuse to use a cooler over 5.5k RPM (hence a .13 chip, .18's run far too hot in my opinion)
Anyhow! sorry for the ranting, my questions.
Anyone know if I could use the current Nforce 415D @ with PC2700 ram @ 166fsb and unlock the CPU (thereby ignoring the AGP 8X and USB 2 I'd like but saving me money plus not having to wait X months until nvidia's "next" chipset) ?
Anyone know of an audio card which supports TRUE dolby 5.1 encoding / decoding like the nforce which is NOT made by creative?
Anyone have ANY kind of rumour / ETA on .13 Athlons?
Anyone know the best review / site / type of nforce 415 that's out now to get good speeds?
