I have been using an P4S8X to do my gaming, basically games like Civ 4 and Black and white, but now the agp port has gone out. I can see that the last pin of the agp port is scorched. My GF4 TI4200 is fried, but I got an x800 Pro. Now, I'm having a tough time what to do. I have 2 other computers that work fine, but I use them for everything else but playing games. I'd like to be able to replace the p4s8x with something else, but I'm seeing that old technology is expensive considering what you can get the newer stuff for.
I'm looking to keep this as cheap as possible, so is it possible to maybe just upgrade the motherboard and processor and keep my existing stuff or do I just scrap all that and go all new? My gaming demands aren't anywhere close to extreme, so can I still use my agp card and still get a newer motherboard?
Here is what I currently have:
CPU - P4 2.4ghz Northwood
HDD - 120gb SATA Seagate
DVD - 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD-RW
Mem - 2x1gb Corsair Value Select PC3200
VC - X800 Pro Agp
PSU - 450w Rosewill
Case - Ahanix Platinum XP (Old, but has served me well)
Sound - Audigy 2zs
OS - XP Pro
Cooling - Water cooled system (Worked on the socket 478, but not sure on newer boards.)
Any advice will be appreciated.
