What would be the bext upgrade to keep me going till fall 2005.
I am thinking a video card upgrade but I only have 300 to spend. I also need
to spend it locally so my fiancee doesnt know I am spending it. Is there a crad for under 300
that is a decent upgrad over my 9700 and will keep me going
through next year. I currently am playing

UT2k4
Far Cry
Battlefield Vietnam
MAdden 2005
Medal Of Honor Pacif
Matrix Online

Will be buying
HL 2
Vampire Bloodlines

and probably EQ2 Oe matrix online

9700 Pro is fine for what you're playing. Just wait til the 6600GT comes to AGP this November, then get one of those.

You think it will be good for HL2 .
I am currently seeing slowdown in Doom3 and Madden 2004 on medium. And farcry also.

From what I've read, Source engine games (HL2, Vampire: Bloodlines) should perform much better than DOOM3 on ATI cards. But I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm drooling in anticipation of both those games as well.

The card should last you through the year, but I wouldn't take it through 2005. A X700 XT that should be coming out soon should work it pretty good for ya.

Agreed. OP, wait for PCI-E before you upgrade. In other words, buy an entire new computer in a year or so.
