Upgrade Geforce 4600 to Radeon 9800 worth it?

I am thinking of jumping ship to the ATI camp after reading many articles favoring the new radeon 9800 over the Geforce FX.
My question is do you think it is worth the upgrade? I currently have a geforce 4- 4600. Should I wait for the next batch of cards?
Thanks,

I would say wait without a doubt. Your Ti4600 is plenty fast enough to hold you over for another few months at least, likely quite a bit longer then that. The NV35 is rumored to launch(not paper but real launch) next month and is reportedly significantly faster then the FX 5800Ultra(it's being fabbed by IBM and not TSMC so it shouldn't be a repeat of the NV30 issues). I would reccomend holding out a bit longer still if I was you(R400/NV40), but at the very least give it another month and see if the rumors pan out.

I can only tell you my experiences. They were brief but the Geforce4 TI 4600 I had ran slower, noticeably slower even in 2D, than the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. Also the text seems clearer and sharper on the ATI.

I waited out having a GF3 (original) and got a Retail 9700 Pro.
Running fast and smooth with AA/AF sure makes the games look great.
The new batch isn't too far off and waiting will give you a larger boost in performance.

The upgrade difference from a Ti4600 to a 9800 is massive though if the NV35 is really not that far away then you might like to wait an extra month to see how it turns out. If you must upgrade now then I'd have no hesitation to recommend a 9800.

Wait for the next batch? When will that be? Probably at least 6 months? If you want to play with AA/AF, then i say go for it, and get the 9800.

I'd definitely pass on the NV30, if you had to upgrade today, then the 9700pro would be the way to go. As others have said, NV35 appears to be nearing launch much sooner than expected with significant performance improvements over any currently existing card, including the 9800pro. It remains to be seen if nVidia has addressed the other issues (other than performance) that doomed the NV30, such as noise and heat.
