Is it a good idea to upgrade from TitanX to TitanX (new 2016)?






- i don t sell my old cards (never did it) so the expense is not amortised ----------> -
- i don t play recent games (only like gta v or older like BF) -----------------------> -
- i don t consider at all gtx 1080/1080ti -------------------------------------------->+
- i can consider waiting for a full pascal Titan X BLACK or something like that ----> -

Supposed to be about 60% faster, so it's up to you if the money is worth it. Should be better in DX12 titles down the pike as well.
There should be a "depends" option in your poll. Remove Hate, and Troll. Just causes flames.
 
Nvidia claims that the Titan X is up to 60% faster than the GTX Titan X.

So it all comes down to whether or not one considers a performance boost of up to 60% worth $1200 (minus whatever you can sell the GTX Titan X for).

In comparison the 1080 offer roughly a 30% average performance boost for $600-700.

So for the new Titan X versus the 1080 you are paying an extra $500-600 for 20-25% more performance.

Id say only if you are playing at 144hz 1440p or 4k60 and playing AAA titles at release. In which case you might still need 2 of them...

Yes i would sell the titan x and get the new rx480 because perf/$😂😂 jokes aside...

Who buys a titan x want the best no matter the price, so the new titan x which is 60% faster is definitely something to get if you want the best.
 
Poll choices are flawed. "It depends" is generally the correct answer.

If money means nothing to you, or being able to show off the most expensive toy is extremely important to you then yes, of course. Otherwise:

If I needed a new card today! because my 980ti "wasn't good enough" then I would consider the Titan X as the fastest single GPU card available. If I was still using my 680 I'd give it a bit more thought.

I'd probably still say no way, performance per dollar is too low compared to the 1080 and would settle for that.

But I'm not trying to impress anyone with my PC specs, I buy these cards to play games.

Also the big question is "are you prepared to mod the cooler" because the NVTTM cooler blows for a big 250W die. This card at stock clocks is no faster than a GTX 1080 at 2GHz, and will be probably just as loud as an OCed GTX 1080.

So if you actually want value for this card, you'll have to slap on an ACX or CLC cooler on it and OC it to 2GHz to actually get a card faster than a boosted/OCed GTX 1080. So effectively the actual price is going to be closer to $1500 after VAT/Taxes with mods for a card that's 30-35% faster than the GTX 1080.

If you don't want to pay that and do that kind of work up front, then you'll need to wait for 1Q 2017 for a aftermarket 1080Ti.

I would ask yourself how many games you play that need more GPU power. I currently play 1 title that puts my 1070 into the ground, and that is R6 Siege. I cannot justify spending $1200 for 1 game though.

It is a bad idea to buy a GPU for "future proofing". Sure there will be more games every year that make the Pascal Titan X more enticing, but by that time, the 1080 ti will be out. The Pascal Titan X will definitely be locked to 250W, severely limiting its overclocking ability. Because of that, a further cut 1080 ti @ 300-350W will overclock far better. Can you justify spending $1200 on locked hardware; especially when a 2 GHz 1080 will be nipping at its heels?

I would only buy the Pascal Titan X if I knew an unlocked BIOS is coming for increased power. I would water cool for optimal clocks. Pascal needs to run as cool as possible to get optimum performance. The FE cooler sucks in that regard. Nvidia slapping on that cheap FE cooler on a $1200 GPU is akin to JHH flipping the bird in your face IMO.
 
I believe the default answer to the question of spending $1200 on a video card should be no. It's like an innocent until proven guilty sort of thing.
 
I can't see the point in buying something that is suppose to be at the top of the stack while knowing it's not the full chip. Just doesn't sit right with me. If I'm going to drop $1200+ on anything it better be the whole thing.

I voted 'It depends'. If you don't mind spending the money and have a need for the extra power and absolutely only want a single GPU solution then yeah, why not?

Bit of a silly question though because it'll be different for everyone, there's no right or wrong answer.
 
It depends if you really need that extra 4 GB of GDDR5X or not. Otherwise one can give a GTX 1080 a mild OC and have performance that is close/equal to Pascal Titan territory.
 
I voted "depends" (thanks Rvenger) because it really is based on whether you want, or need what TitanXP has to offer.
 
What are you going to do with your shiny new Titan X? Play games a little bit faster? Waste of money. Look at it in your case and feel a sense of smug satisfaction? Waste of money. Get some actual work done faster? Might be worth it, but be careful because you don't get the pro OpenGL drivers with Titan.

Sounds bitter. Laden with contempt. A better answer would be, if up to 60% performance improvement over your current TitanX is worth it, considering the resale value of your TitanX going toward the purchase of the new TitanX, then why not?
 
it s on a gaming pc, not for work. For all that s not gaming i use macs.

+ i really prefer Nvidia FE coolers, they re the best for me. I only want reference cards.
+ i don t consider at all something that s not Titan: no gtx 1080 no 1080ti ecc...
+ NO SLI config.Never more. only 1 card.
+ no liquid cooling or custom air cooling
+ no overclock
