However, the glare is just one problem. I'd also appreciate some more screen size due to the new room. Is 24" really that much of a noticable difference over 20"?

It's a pretty big difference IMO. There was a pic floating around of a Dell 2007 sitting beside of a 2407 and, at least in the pic, there was a sizable difference. I don't think going to a 22" would be much of an upgrade, not to mention they are almost all TNs, so 24" or larger would definitely be the way to go.
